How to play Block Puzzle

Block Puzzle is a falling-block arcade in the Tetris tradition. Pieces of four squares drop from the top of a narrow well; you slide and rotate them as they fall, and any row you completely fill clears and scores points. The pieces speed up as you go.

Controls

• ← → — slide piece sideways
• ↑ — rotate clockwise
• ↓ — soft drop (faster fall)
• Space — hard drop
• R — restart

Tips & strategy

• Keep the field flat. Bumpy terrain is hard to fill. Stack pieces so the surface stays roughly level; tall holes are how runs end.
• Save one column for tetrises. Leave an empty column on the right and stack the rest flat. When a long piece drops, slot it in for a four-row clear.
• Don't panic on speed-up. When the pieces accelerate, slow your hands — misplaced pieces cost more than slow ones.
• Use the preview. The next-piece preview is the difference between good play and great play. Plan two moves ahead.

The falling-block puzzle traces directly to Alexey Pajitnov's Tetris, designed in 1984 at the Computing Centre of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. The Game Boy port in 1989 sold 35 million copies and made Tetris one of the best-selling games of all time. Block Puzzle is the modern web descendant — same mechanic, no install required.
