How to play Frogger

Frogger is the cabinet that turned crossing the street into an arcade staple. You guide a frog from the bottom of the screen to its home pad at the top — first across a busy multi-lane highway, then across a river by hopping between logs, turtles, and other floating drift. One mistake ends the life.

• ← → ↑ ↓ — hop one square in each direction
• R — restart

Tips & strategy

• Hop, don't wait. Standing still on the road means cars catch up to you. Forward is usually safer than waiting.
• Time the gaps in traffic. Each lane moves in alternating directions and at different speeds. Find the rhythm before you commit to crossing.
• Ride mid-log, not the end. On the river, sit in the middle of a log — ends drift off the screen and take you with them.
• Skip the diving turtle. Turtles periodically submerge. Stand on one that's about to dive and you drown. Watch for the warning ripples.

About Frogger

Frogger shipped in 1981 from Konami, licensed in the US by Sega/Gremlin. It was a top-five arcade earner in 1982 and the rare cabinet that women played as often as men — the gentle, family-friendly aesthetic was a deliberate choice against the era's shooters.
