How a round works
- The artist takes a word in secret and has 60 seconds to draw it
- No letters, no numbers, no talking — and no charades gestures
- Team guesses before time runs out — 1 point; pass play or steals by house taste
- Rotate artists every word · easy = 1 pt, medium = 2, hard = 3 if you like stakes
These lists are original to Limestone Games. Pictionary® is a registered trademark of Mattel, Inc.; this page is an independent work, not affiliated with or endorsed by Mattel — the words work with any drawing-and-guessing game, branded or homemade.
How to play a drawing-and-guessing game
Split into teams. Each turn, one artist secretly takes a word and has sixty seconds to get their team to say it using nothing but drawing — no letters, no numbers, no talking, no gestures. Score a point per guessed word, rotate the pencil, and play to a target or a timer. That's the entire engine; everything else is house style.
Using the lists
The four difficulty lists are built for real tables: Easy gets everyone drawing without fear, Medium is the game's natural altitude, Hard is for the friend who's suspiciously good, and Kids keeps young artists in the game with words they own. Cut strips into a hat for random draws, or let a non-playing reader deal words by difficulty — one, two and three points make a fine wager system.
The holiday round
Eighteen seasonal words for December tables — a themed round mid-game is the cheapest way to make a party game feel like an event. Prefer word games without the drawing? Charades cards and Scattergories sheets are one shelf over.
Frequently asked
Is pointing at objects in the room legal? No — the pencil does all the talking. That rule dies first at every party; write it on the whiteboard.
Symbols like arrows? Arrows, yes — universally allowed. Question marks, equals signs and crossing things out to mean "not" are house-rule territory; agree first.
