How Bunco is scored

Bunco is a dice game of pure luck built for a crowd — usually twelve players across three tables of four. Six rounds are played, numbered one through six, and the round number is what you are trying to roll.

The scoring

Roll three dice. You score one point for each die matching the round number — so in round three, each 3 is a point. Score anything at all and you roll again; score nothing and the dice pass to the left.

Roll three of the round number and that is a Bunco — worth 21 points, usually shouted. Three of a kind that isn't the round number is worth 5.

Ending a round

The moment any table reaches 21 points, the round ends everywhere. Winners at each table move up, losers move down, and partners rotate. That constant shuffling is why Bunco works as a party game.

The tally is what matters

Most groups award prizes on the totals rather than the points — most wins, most losses, most Buncos. The second table on the sheet tracks all three, plus baby Buncos (three of a kind off the round number) for groups that award those too.

Frequently asked

How many people do you need? Twelve is traditional, but any multiple of four works.

What is a Bunco worth? Twenty-one points, and it ends your table's round immediately if it takes them to 21.

Do you keep rolling? Yes — as long as you score at least one point, you roll again.
