Euchre is the fast partnership trick-taking game of the American Midwest and Ontario, played with a short 24-card deck. You and the player across the table are a team against the other two. One suit becomes trump, then the hand is over in five quick tricks. Euchre uses only the 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace of each suit — 24 cards. Each player is dealt five, and the next card is turned face up. That turned-up card is the offer: it proposes its own suit as trump.
Trump does not rank the way you expect. The right bower is the jack of the trump suit, and it is the highest card in the game. The left bower is the other jack of the same color, and for that entire hand it stops being its own suit and becomes trump — the second-highest card.
So if spades are trump, the jack of clubs is a spade. If someone leads clubs, you do not have to play it — it is not a club any more. The rest of trump then runs A, K, Q, 10, 9. Non-trump suits rank normally: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9.

First team to 10 points wins the game.
When you name trump you may declare that you are going alone. Your partner lays their hand down and sits out, so the hand is played three-handed. It is the only way to score 4 points at once, but you have no partner to cover you — and being euchred alone still hands the other team 2. Go alone when you hold both bowers plus the ace, or a hand with almost no losers.

What is the highest card in Euchre? The right bower, which is the jack of the trump suit. The left bower — the other jack of the same color — is second.
